Bart Starr was born on born January 9, 1934. He played for the Alabama Crimson Tide from 1952 to 1955. Due to the Korean War colleges were allowed to play freshmen due to shortage of players. (College freshmen were not allowed to play for the varsity team until 1972, 1952 being an exception.)

Starr’s career at Alabama was good but not outstanding. It most certainly was not foreseeable that Starr would play for the Packers for 16 years, win Super Bowls, and eventually end up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In fact, Starr was the 200th pick of the NFL Draft, even lower than the now legendary passing up of Tom Brady.

Here are some of his accomplishments at Alabama:
  • 1903 total yards passing over four years
  • 10 TDs
  • 20 interceptions
  • He played safety on defense
  • He was also Alabama’s punter
  • 41.4 yards per punt in 1953 ranking him second in the nation.
  • Injuries limited his time both his junior and senior seasons

Interesting stats, but predicting Starr would have success in the NFL would be very hard from looking at his college career results.
