Morten Andersen played for the Michigan State Spartans from 1978 to 1981. He was Michigan State's kicker for all four of his years in college.

Morten Andersen scored 261 points over his college career. He made 45 fields goals and 126 extra points. At the time, he set the record for the longest field goal in Big Ten history with a 63 yard field goal vs. Ohio State. In 1981, his senior year, he was named All-American.

Morten was the 86th pick in the fourth round of the 1982 draft. He was drafted by the New Orleans Saints. He would play in the NFL for 25 seasons with the following teams: New Orleans Saints (1982–1994); Atlanta Falcons (1995–2000); New York Giants (2001); Kansas City Chiefs (2002–2003); Minnesota Vikings (2004); and the Atlanta Falcons (2006–2007). Over his NFL career he scored 2,544 points and made 565 field goals. He is to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as member of the 2017 Hall of Fame Class.
