Terrell Davis played for two schools while in college: Long Beach State University and the University of Georgia. At Long Beach State Davis was redshirted in 1990 and then played in 1991, but the football program was disbanded after that year and he transferred to Georgia. He played for Georgia from 1992 to 1994.

Terrell rushed for 262 yards and two TDs while he was a Long Beach State 49er and he also had one receiving TD and 92 total yards receiving. When Davis became a Georgia Bulldog he was used as a backup to Garrison Hearst his first year, but then started his junior and senior years. He was plagued by injuries throughout his time at Georgia. At Georgia Terrell rushed for 1,675 yards and 14 TDs. He also had 529 yards receiving and four receiving TDs. Since he was prone to injuries he was not highly sought after in the 1995 NFL Draft. Coach Mike Shanahan and the Denver Broncos did draft Terrell in the sixth round as the 196th overall pick.

Terrell immediately contributed to the Denver Broncos rushing for 1,117 yards and seven TDs as a rookie. Terrell and Hall of Fame Quarterback John Elway would make a lethal combination for the Denver Broncos winning Super Bowls XXXII and XXXIII. Terrell was the MVP of Super Bowl XXXII. In those Super Bowl years (1997 - 1998) Terrell would rush for 1,750 - 2,008 yards and 15 - 21 TDs, as well he had 287 - 217 yards receiving and 0 - 2 touchdown receptions. He was injured in 1999 and while he stayed in the league for four more years he was never the same. For the four years from 1995 to 1998 he was the best running back in the NFL and one of the best four stretches in NFL history; during those four years he ran for 6,413 yards and 56 touchdowns and had 1,181 receiving yards and five TD receptions. He is to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as member of the 2017 Hall of Fame class, both him and Kurt Warner proving that the door to the Hall of Fame is open to those who played spectacularly for a few seasons.
