Who would you rather have as the primary receiver for your college team - Ryan Broyles or Howard Twilley?

Howard Twilley played wide receiver for the Tulsa Golden Hurricane football team. Howard James Twilley, Jr. was born December 25, 1943 and was one of the first “true” wide receivers in college football. (Up until then the position was not used as much and was not as prolific.)

Twilley played for the Golden Hurricanes from 1963 to 1965. Twilley’s teams went 22-10-0. His team won the Missouri Valley Conference in 1965, as well as participated in two back to back Bluebonnet Bowls in 1964 and 1965. In 1964 they won the Bluebonnet Bowl by a score of 14 to 7 vs. Mississippi. As Tulsa was a not a great football power; these were very significant achievements. In 1965 Twilley finished 2nd in the Heisman vote and was a consensus All-American.

He finished his college career amassing 261 receptions, 3343 receiving yards, 32 touchdowns, and averaging 12.8 yards per reception. These were unheard-of numbers at that time, which earned him the name of the best receiver ever in 1965.

Ryan Broyles played wide receiver for the Oklahoma Sooners football team. Ryan Broyles was born on April 9, 1988 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He attended Norman High School and played for the Norman Tigers High School football team.

He was recruited by Coach Bob Stoops and played for his Sooner’s teams from 2008 to 2011. Ryan’s teams went 30-1-0 while he was there and went to the BSC National Championship game in the 2008 season, losing to the Florida Gators by a score of 24 -14.

He was a 2011 and 2012 consensus All-American. He holds the record for most receptions by a college player in the FBS with 349. He may have challenged for other records as well, but he only played nine games his senior season due to a torn ACL that ended his college career.

He finished his college career amassing 303 receptions, 3899 receiving yards, 39 touchdowns and averaging 12.8 yards per reception. His record as all time leader in receptions still stands.

So there you have it. Two legendary stars with a brief synopsis of their college careers. Which player do you take, based on his college career, to be your primary receiver?
